MOTOR Action
and Zimbabwe national team midfielder Clement Matawu is one of a
host of players being targeted by Dynamos in preparation for the
African Champions League next year.
DeMbare, as Dynamos are
affectionately known as by their legion of followers were handed a
relatively easy preliminary first round draw against royal Leopards
of Swaziland.
Though Matawu and Dynamos are keeping the
deal close to their chests, high placed sources within the club
revealed to Zimbabwe Gazette that the pint-sized midfielder had
shown interest in joining the most popular team in the land.
“Matawu is high on coach David
Mandigora’s wish list and the player is also interest in
joining the club. He wants to play in the African Champions League
which he thinks can market him to clubs abroad,” said the
source.
The source however, revealed that Matawu
is not going to come cheap as he is idolized by Motor Action boss
Eric Rosen.
“Matawu is regarded highly by Rosen and he is
likely to use every trick to hold on to him. Dynamos are still to
approach Rosen on the issue, but they will do so soon,” said
the source.
Mandigora could only say that he is
looking at adding a number of players to the current squad to
emulate the class of 1998 that made history by reaching the finals
of the African Champions League.
“There are quite a
number of players we are targeting, but I can not name them as
doing so would jeopardize the negotiations,” he said.
Matawu was in dazzling form last season
that saw him winning the 2006 Soccer Star of the Year Award.
This year he had a subdued season that saw
him losing the title to Murape Murape of Dynamos.
His team Motor Action survived relegation
by a whisker this season.
Among players Dynamos targeting is
defender Thomas Svesve who was recently holding trials in
Malaysia.
Svesve turned out for the relegated Mwana
Africa last season, but is out of contract following the expiry of
the contract.
The tough as tick defender has made it
open that he wants to join Dynamos if the Malaysian deal fails to
materialize. |
