SUSPENDED CAPS United midfielder Clarkson Dzimbiri has fired a volley at former team coach Luke Masomere who accused players of sabotaging him during his tenure.
Masomere threw in the towel last weekend after the team’s 1-3 loss to Premier Soccer League new boys Underhill blaming the players for underperforming so as to get him fired. The former AmaZulu and Masvingo United coach could only watch in agony as his charges succumbed six matches in a row and currently anchor the 16 team log. Dzimbiri, who was suspended by the coach after a split following the sack of assistant coach Gishon Ntini said Masomere should have concentrated on coming up with strategies that would see the team winning other than pointing fingers at players. “I have nothing against him (Masomere) as a coach, but he failed himself at CAPS United. His divide and rule tactic was his biggest undoing. It is very sad that a coach of his caliber would point a finger on his players. Players’ job is to play football and not to choose coaches. The war was between CAPS United and 15 Premiership clubs and not between Masomere and United players,” said the national team fringe player. Dzimbiri added it was unfortunate that the executive suspended him without looking at facts on the ground. “We love CAPS United dearly and there is no way the players can plan to lose a match. It is unfortunate that I was singled out as the problem child, which was never true at all. Those who chose to prosecute me never bothered to go deeper into the crisis at hand,” he said.
CAPS United problems started after the sacking of Ntini whom the executive felt could not work together with Masomere.
The sacking of Ntini sparked a player revolt that saw Masomere stripping David Kutyauripo the captaincy of the team and suspended a number of senior players. The CAPS United executive of Twine Phiri and Farai Jere then intervened resulting in the lifting of the suspension of some senior players save for Dzimbiri. Masomere’s departure paved way for nomadic coach Jostein Mathuthu who was plucked from Eric Rosen’s Motor Action. CAPS United’s poor run in the Premiership has surprised many a soccer fan as the team has quality players in its ranks. Players that quickly come to mind are Tafadzwa Rusike, Method Mwanjali and goalkeeper Energy Murambadoro. New coach Mathuthu picked up a single point after leading the team to a 1-1 draw in a league match against Kiglon at Gwanzura. |
