FORMER Zimbabwe and Chapungu striker Maxwell Dube has ditched the log leaders to join Southern Region Division One side ZimAlloys.
The stocky striker, who had an unhappy stint at champions Dynamos in 2004, is not happy with failing to command a regular jersey at the current log leaders. Dube said he would have wanted to join the cash rich Division One outfit before the start of the season, but was denied the chance. “I have made up my mind. I will be leaving Chapungu when the transfer window opens in July. I need more playing time and I can only get it if I play for Zimalloys,” he said. He added that he now wants a change of environment. “What I want now is a new challenge. I have been at Chapungu for a long time and feel that the time is up to move. I know that I will do well at Zimalloys,” said Dube.
Dube has struggled to fit into the Chapungu outfit and has been coming from the bench in matches that Chapungu has played this season. In the few matches that he has featured, Dube has changed the complexion of the game in favour of Chapungu, but has failed to command a regular starting jersey. Dube became a household name with his thunderous shots, chicky body swerve and darting runs in 2003. His exploits did not go unnoticed as he was voted as the Soccer Star of the Year that year. His amazing game took him to Dynamos, but he had a very forgettable season that saw him packing his bags back to Chapungu the following season. Dube appeared so confused at Dynamos that at one time he was hauled before the Premier Soccer League (PSL) disciplinary committee after wearing a short that was different from the rest of the team.
Though he regained his form at Chapungu, age is beginning to catch up with him as he easily gets tired. In another case, it has emerged that former Chapungu goalkeeper Innocent Chogugudza parted ways with Zimalloys over juju. According to close sources, Chogugudza who the head coach at Zimalloys brought a traditional healer to help the team without the knowledge of team management resulting in a harsh exchange of words. “Chogugudza clashed with the team management over the use of a certain traditional healer. He wanted to bring in a new n’anga to the team and this did not go down well with the team management,” said the source. |
