Dynamos head coach David “Yogi” Mandigora says the newly crowned league champions are ready to meet the best on the continent and reclaim their rightful position among the big boys of the African Champions League.

In an interview with The Zimbabwe Gazette soon after the announcement of this year’s draw the DeMbare gaffer insisted that although only a handful of his players have ventured into the African safari before his charges are geared up for the challenge.

“It is every team’s dream to play in the champions’ league and as Dynamos we are determined to make our return to the African safari after a nine year absence a memorable one.”

“It goes without saying that we the biggest team in Zimbabwe and I believe we should show that by going all the way to the finals like we did during the 1998 campaign,” said Mandigora.

In a draw released by the Confederation of African Football on Wednesday Dynamos were handed a preliminary round clash against Swaziland champions Royal Leopards with the first leg penciled in for the weekend of February 15th -17th in Mbabane with the return for the weekend of 1st -2nd March in Harare.

Although admitting that he does not know much about Royal Leopards, Mandigora maintained that the release of the draw would give him a “rough idea” of how to prepare for Dynamos’ return to the champions league.

“At least we now know who our opponents will be and this gives us an opportunity to prepare accordingly for the preliminary round clash against Royal Leopards whom I presume to be a good team since they are the champions of Swaziland.”

“As part of our preparation for the champions league we are looking at adding one or two players to the team although at the moment I can not give you the names of the players we are targeting for we might run the risk of scuttling the on going negotiations,” said the DeMbare coach.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe’s representatives in the Confederation Cup Highlanders have been drawn to play Mozambican giants Ferroviario with the first leg penciled in for the weekend of February 15th -17th and the return a fortnight later.
