An air of confusion engulfed the Dynamos camp as Zimbabwe’s most famous football club and reigning champions began preparing for 2008 at Raylton Sports Club on Monday.
2007 Soccer Star Of The Year Captain Justice Majabvi did not report for training, winger Edward Sadomba was present but could not commit his immediate future to DeMbare while none of the targeted new signings were nowhere in sight. The champions are yet to sign contracts with the majority of the players who won them their first league title in a decade amid indications that flamboyant side Lengthens are ready to swoop on disillusioned players. With their return to the Champions League just over a month away the Dynamos camp is now working round the clock to seal deals with players such as Thomas Sweswe, Benjamin Marere and Admire Dzukamanja who are among the 30 players they registered with the Confederation of African Football.
A senior DeMbare executive member told The Zimbabwe Gazette that Mwana Africa have priced Marere at $ 15 billion a figure which the Harare giants will certainly find impossible to pay for just a single player. The official revealed that of the 30 players they registered for the Champions League only five have signed contracts with the Zimbabwean champions, in a worrying development for the DeMbare faithful. “Only five players have signed and it looks bad as well because Mwana Africa want $15 million for Marare while Dzukamanja is in South Africa with Supersport.” “Negotiations are still on for Thomas Sweswe and Lazarus Muhoni but as you might expect the coach (David Mandigora) is not pleased because all this talk about contracts is detrimental ahead of the game against Royal Leopards,” said the official. Majabvi’s camp say the player, who has set his eyes on joining a South African club, will only report for training in the event that Dynamos offer him a new contract.
The club’s leading goal scorer and 2007 soccer star of the year Murape Murape is also yet to sign a contract with Dynamos together with pair of goalie Willard Manyatera and defender William Mapfumo. “His contract with Dynamos has expired so it is foolish to expect the player to report for training when he has no contract with the team. What happens when he is injured while training with them in the absence of a contract? “Right now we have organised a two month trial stint with some South African club and will only consider having Justice rejoin Dynamos when we receive an offer from them,” said a member of Majabvi’s management team. Meanwhile, Dynamos have offloaded left back Sebastin Matende and Ramson Zhuwao while Tendai Gwata has been transferred to Lancashire Steel in a swap deal that has seen Farai Vimisayi and Brighton Tuwaya moving in the opposite direction. |
