Squabbles within the ruling party are the reason why the current president Robert Mugabe vowed to stand in this year’s election, The Zimbabwe Gazette can reveal.

Informants from the state security agency are saying Zanu PF is not at peace with many factions forming within the party and leaving the 83 year old leader with no option but to have another go for the elections.

“The old man did not want to stand for elections this year but because his party is not at peace he took it upon himself to have another run for the elections,” said one informant.

He went on saying that unrest in the ruling party is reaching alarming levels only that it is being played down. Some of the in-house squabbles within the ruling party were witnessed live on national television when the party held its Annual Congress in November last year. Mugabe had to intervene to instill order among his people as they could not stand the refusal by John Nkomo and others of Jabulani Sibanda, the war veteran leader, to give a speech at the congress.

However the incidents that took place at the congress are a culmination of the real problems the party is having at the moment. The Mujuru led faction is the biggest opponent of Mugabe within the ruling party and it is said to be spreading confusion in the ruling party. Lately Member of Parliament for Mashonaland West David Butau who happens to be under the Mujuru bandwagon fled the country for Britain after being said to be involved in scandalous foreign currency deals.

“Most of the members of the ruling party are the ones who are into corruption at the expense of party principles hence Mugabe seeing it fit for him to stand once again. Corruption in the ruling party is rampant and this can be attributed to the squabbles in it and the Mugabe faction thinks the Mujuru faction is being sponsored by Britain,” went on the operative.

The Mnangagwa faction has been silent lately but it is also known to be involved in corruption that is all being blamed on Mugabe. His own people are slowly turning against him and all the indiscipline they are doing to the economy is to see the old man off. If all truth could be said, Zanu PF is being held together by Mugabe. If he is to step down as president the demise of that party is imminent. Many are quoting a statement that was once said by one personality whom I haven’t established his name who said that the only thing that will remove Mugabe from power is a faction that will come from within his party. However on the other side MDC is said to be suffering the same predicament as Tsvangirai’s right hand man Tendai Biti is being said to be planning a split from the opposition party.

“Biti is seeing that it is likely that Zimbabwe is going to have a government of national unity and he is being neutral in the negotiations currently taking place. He wants a stake if the government of national unity comes into power,” went on the informant.

Tsvangirai has been blamed from many social circles for showing dictatorship tendencies in him before he even gets into power. Last year he had serious confrontations with the women’s wing in his party led by Matibenga. Mugabe has been ruling Zimbabwe for the past 27 years and the economy has been on the fall from 10 years back highly due to dangerous and self destructive policies.
