The Zimbabwe Gazette has it with authority that the armed forces of Zimbabwe are divided over whom they want to rule them.
Zimbabwe Military Divided As to Who They Want To Rule Zimbabwe Sergeants are saying they have had enough of Mugabe and he should go as they have suffered enough under his rule. “We were not given the money that you always hear in the press. This money was given starting from top ranks going upwards and all of us were not given anything so why should we continue being loyal to Mugabe,” said one soldier we talked to who is based at KG VI. He said if send to beat people he is not going to do this as it will be against his conscience.
“Why should I beat people when they are protesting for their freedom and rights as if I am getting something from the authorities? I will simply walk by people if told to go and beat them in case of violence erupting out,” he continued. Another soldier we talked to who is at One Commando barracks said that he was facing problems encountered by everyone due to the Mugabe regime and there was no reason why he would not want change of governance.
“I board the same buses that everyone gets into, I pay the rent that is paid by everyone and so is the same for all rates and looking at how much I am earning I have had enough of the ruling party,” he said. On the other side all those army officials with high ranks are claiming never to salute Morgan Tsvangirai as their president. They are calling him a sellout and as such can never work with him as their president. A soldier who is under the presidential guard military was fuming when we asked him why they don’t want Tsvangirai to rule. “Never will that person rule in Zimbabwe. We are not going to let that happen and also what type of president do you people want to rule you. He is empty in the head and you call him your president, never is he going to rule, this I can assure you,” he said. This soldier was also in the army that was sent to the Democratic Republic of Congo DRC by the Mugabe regime and by so doing saw him having a house in Manyame Park in Chitungwiza as well as getting a chance to be in the Presidential Guard army. It seems those who benefited from the actions taken by Mugabe and his government still want him to go on whilst the bulk of the military have had enough of him. Army Generals were given top of the range Mitsubishi Pajeros for keeps by the Mugabe regime as well as other things that to them they owe much allegiance to that hand that fed them. One problem being sighted by the general soldiers is that as they work on orders and not merit they end up being forced to take actions they are not willing to which include beating and terrorizing people. |
