Zanu PF political commissar Elliot Manyika has said that having people with parallel thinking is not a new thing in his party.

He echoed these sentiments on Thursday during the ZTV news after being asked by Newsnet reporter Reuben Barwe to comment on the breakaways in Zanu PF.

“This is not something new in the party. Even in 1980 or any other year there have been people like that in the party and it is not something that will amuse us,’ said the highly vocal fume talking Manyika. This comes after Simba Makoni has officially announced that he is going to contest in the presidential elections due in March this year.

Makoni officially held a press conference in Harare on Tuesday at around 11am where he announced his intentions to challenge the president in the forthcoming elections. Though he has not renounced his membership to Zanu PF, Makoni is going ahead with his intentions to stand in the elections. On Friday he held a public meeting in Harare where he disclosed together with his right man at the moment, Ibbotson Mandaza that they will avail their manifesto to the public in ten days time and that also includes other members of his side who will stand in the harmonized elections. This goes contrary to the statements he made that he is going to stand alone as an independent as the inclusion of other people from his side means a lot on his intensions to have his own party.

However his actions have seen him being expelled from the ruling party which was officially said through electronic media from two days ago. Again Makoni commented on the same news bulletin that showcased Manyika saying that the powers that be at his party had not done away with him through the proper channels hence he was still a member of Zanu PF.

“They have not expelled me procedurally so I wont listen to what the media says. Only until they do this will I take it in but all the same will stand in the elections as an independent,” said the former finance minister of Zimbabwe.

Makoni earlier on was refuting reports that he wanted to start a break away group from Zanu PF only to come out in the open this week. A lot of controversy though surrounds his standing in the elections as earlier on he is said to have been engaged in a meeting with the president on his return from his leave and nothing has been said of what they discussed except that he had denied wanting to stand in the elections. Also the fact that he is still saying he is Zanu PF means that he did not start a new party but is within Zanu PF and still in tandem with its policies.

Though circumstances surrounding his vying for the presidential seat are still not yet clear and as many questions still stand to be answered, Makoni has been so brave in as many years to openly challenge President Mugabe in the coming elections, something many have feared to do. One other prodigal son of Zanu PF who would let his followers down at the last minute after challenging Mugabe in the run to the elections was Edgar Tekere who has since wrote a book that has sold like hot cakes that is political in nature and talks a lot about the ruling president. The book was banned from the bookstores in the country.
