Mobile phone operators have hiked tariffs by more than 200 percent on the back of the Zimbabwean consumer's ever-eroded spending power. 

Fixed telephone operators are also poised to announce new tariffs.

Ever-increasing transport costs coupled with escalating food and fuel prices has forced many Zimbabwean urban dwellers to avoid visiting their respective rural homes 'kumusha' especially during this festive season holidays.

The current cash shortages have reached alarming levels in which a lot of banks cite they hardly have any money prompting a lot of people to wait for the whole day in long queues in anticipation of making withdrawals.
