Zimbabweans gave American R‘n’B star Joe Thomas a hero’s send off at the Harare International Airport as he left the country after a one-off show in the capital over the weekend.

Hundreds of people thronged the airport to salute the music star who returned to his country via the United Kingdom on Sunday.

There was beating of drums, ululation and whistling as the star waved at his the fans from all walks of life.

Young people dominated the crowd and ladies screamed at the top of their voices at the sight of their idol who was in the country for the first time.

Joe did not have time to address the fans but the smile and waving were enough to scintillate the fans.

Joe performed at the Harare International Conference Centre on Saturday night before thousands of music lovers.

He gave a splendid performance and the whole auditorium shook with jubilation and excitement throughout the two hours of his performance.

Warming up the stage ahead of Joe was a contingent of urban grooves musicians who included Mafriq, Roki and Stunner.

The youngsters did well to keep the audience entertained as they waited for the real act of the night.

Dino Mudondo and Fungisai Zvakavapano also performed in the curtain-raiser line-up.

Mudondo did well with songs Jatropha and Ndichakumirira while Fungisai consecrated the show with three of her gospel tune.

It was exactly 2329 hours when the auditorium exploded with joy as Joe was introduced on stage.

The musician did not waste time but sent the crowd shaking with some of his popular hits.

He performed songs like My Name is Joe, All that I am and No One Else among many other outstanding hits.

Many people sang along most of the songs and Joe was amazed at the popularity of his songs here.

"You are great people. I did not know there were great fans here. I love you all. I love you," said Joe on stage.

His two dancing girls kept male fans at standstill as they gyrated and turned with expertise.

People screamed for more as the musician went off stage and others got out following Joe to Room 10 Club in Borrowdale where he was billed to feature in an after party.

But a number remained to watch Oliver Mtukudzi who gave a closing act to the great show.

Tuku was in his usual form but the night belonged to the American star and the talk of town on Sunday morning was Joe’s performance.

It was no surprise that hundreds opted to see the musician off at the airport.
