Alick Macheso & Dino Mudondo Whilst he plays contemporary jazz with a fusion of heavy beat of reggae, a gentle rhumba beat in the class of kwasa-kwasa, hip-hop and a bit of R'n'B fusion to cater for the youthful audience, Dino Mudondo is eager to record with local music heavyweights, Oliver Mtukudzi and Alick Macheso.

Having shared stage with the two on several occassions, Dino says he believes he is now one of the big names on the local music scene and would not mind getting into the studio with either Tuku or Macheso.
Speaking to Zimbabwe Gazette, Mudondo emphasised even if the 'Madhara'- (refering to Tuku and Macheso) are not reluctant to record songs or albums with me, they are welcome to just chip in and help. These two have been my local role models and I have been following their music since my childhood, especially Alick Macheso.
"They have inspired me a lot and for me, they have succeeded and I believe that is where I am also going," said Mudondo. To date, Mudondo has recorded six albums with Rasta Kwasa being his last offering late last year. His first album, Makorokoto was recorded in 2001 followed by Makoikoi, Dino, Nganganga from Strength to Strength and his fifth was Winning 'n' Dining. Recently, Mudondo acquired the Chigutiro Studio which contracts a number of upcoming youthful musicians otherwise refered to as Urban Groovers. As the studio owner and executive producer, he is also working on two albums- Divisi (his own) and Chigutiro Phase 3 (a compilation) which are set to be released in December this year. "When I bought the studio, I also took over the artistes (Urban Groovers) who had been contracted already, but now I have opened doors for more artistes to come in regardless on the genre of music hence also the decision to partner Tuku or Macheso," he said. Mudondo adds ten other artistes have already booked for recording at his studio whilst others who are already contracted have begun working on new projects. Other 'great' musicians who have worked with Mudondo include Kelly Rusike, Fortune Mparutsa, Billy MO- a Liberian based artist and former Bhundu Boys keyboard player and Kuda Henry Matimba. |
