In the run-up to the horrific June 27 presidential run-off election, headlines were made when the ruling ZANU PF notorious youth militia murdered four main opposition- MDC members at a house in the high density suburb of Chitungwiza, which is about 30 kilometers from Zimbabwe’s capital- Harare.
A well placed source told The Zimbabwe Gazette that all is not well in the Unit N area of Chitungwiza popularly referred to as Chi-town, where the MDC members were attacked and abducted. A couple of the ZANU PF offenders who reside in that same area are now roaming the streets, as they have gone psycho. “Mysterious incidents are happening MDC District Chairman, Philemon Chipiyo’s house.” “Part of the group aligned to the ruling party which murdered the four activists is coming to Chipiyo’s house almost on a daily basis to ask for forgiveness for their wrong doing.” “They cite some of their colleagues have gone psycho, and the number is growing as days pass by,” he said. Last month, political violence heated up as the Election Day fast approached, the MDC reported that 4 youth members were murdered by President Mugabe’s militia. It emerged the fourth person was a passerby who fell victim because he failed to chant the ZANU PF slogan.
The bodies of the MDC trio of Archiford Chipiyo (who is Philemon’s son), Yona Jenti and Ngoni Night were buried at the Unit L cemetery. The source, who also stays in the suburb of Chi-town, said the ZANU PF group has not managed to get the help they seek. “Every time they arrive at Chipiyo’s house, they leave wearing sad faces.” “Actually, only children are residing at the place as all adults including Chipiyo are still in hiding- fearing for their lives.” “So, the children tell the murderers that they cannot help as they are only kids,” he said. When the group of armed militia wearing ZANU-PF t-shirts attacked Chitiyo’s house, his son was home with two other colleagues. When they learnt of the ruling party thugs who had surrounded their house, they lifted Philemon to help him get over the high wall before fighting back.
The ZANU-PF gang left and returned with more than 100 others. They petrol bombed the house and Philemon’s son was stabbed and he died on the scene. The other two were severely beaten, abducted and later found dead near the capital. The source adds this development has become talk of the day in Chi-town. “I have heard neighbours talk a lot about this. Many say it has to do with traditional issues.” “You know, they say Chipiyo’s rural area is in Manicaland- where the use of juju and traditional medicines is very common.” “What I can assure you is many locals are happy about this development,” he concluded. The ZANU PF militia accused Chipiyo of masterminding Mugabe’s poll defeat in the district during the March 29 harmonised elections. |
