President Robert Mugabe's wife, Grace Mugabe (Marufu) regularly consults a witchdoctor (n'anga) who is said to be very good in her work as a healer, in fore-telling and most of all- in the use of 'juju'.
Grace Mugabe Sources told The Zimbabwe Gazette that the n'anga, who is a female and has a lot of top politicians and businessmen as clients. The n'anga's son known as Musa (who can't keep any secret when he downs the brown bottle) also let the cat out of the bag when speaking to this reporter. The n'anga stays in the Lochinvar suburb in Harare where the first lady has been seen making frequent visits at her house which is located near a joint, Club Hide-Out 99. "I am aware that Musa's mother is a 'respected' witchdoctor in Harare especially when it comes to the use of juju," said a source who preferred anonymity. "It is not very clear why Grace consults the n'anga," she said.
A number of Zimbabweans especially politicians, businessmen and professionals consult witchdoctors, of which they believe their 'help' can take them to greater heights in the office. Some also use juju to suppress their opponents or subordinates so as to pave way for their success. The sources added even the witchdoctor's son- Musa uses juju to steal and that is what he survives on. If he gets arrested, he won't even sleep in the police cell as he is mysteriously let go. Another source said when Grace visits the n'anga, she won't be accompanied by Mugabe. At Club Hide-Out, whilst having a drink, Musa confirmed his mother is a n'anga and he also uses juju. "My mother's top client is the first lady and she pays very well for the services she gets." he said. The talkative young man went on to narrate how he and his accomplices have managed to steal in banks and hotels without being noticed and most of all, how they go on spending sprees. "It is surprising my girlfriend doesn't believe me on this one but I emphasise to her that I use (muti) for survival." "Even the police know that I am a thief and I use juju. If they catch me, the only thing they can do is to ask for cut (bribe). They are now my friends," he boasts. Recently, the government was duped by a self-proclaimed Chinhoyi spirit medium Rotina Mavhunga, who took many government officials for a ride after she lied that she had discovered diesel oozing out of rocks in the area. This strongly reveals how locals believe in witchdoctors. The officials include the Minister of Energy and Power Development, Retired Lieutenant-General Mike Nyambuya, the Minister of Science and Technology, Olivia Muchena, and the Minister of Mines and Mining Development, Amos Midzi among others. |
