Tongai ‘Dhewa’ Moyo has taken a swipe at the organisers of the Zimbabwe Music Awards for being unfair and partial.

Moyo did not pocket any award at the ZIMA ceremony held at Meikles Hotel in the capital on Wednesday night despite being nominated in four categories.

Alick Macheso
Best Sungura Artist & Most Popular Cell-phone Music Ring-tone
He was nominated in the Best Male, Best Sungura, Best Live Perfomance and Song of the Year categories but he lost all the categories.

He was beaten to the rope by his arch-rival Alick Macheso who scooped the Best Sungura for Ndezvashe-eh, Best Live Performance and Best Male Artiste while the Song of the Year Award went to Roki.

Macheso also won the Most Popular Cell-phone Music Ring-tone for Shedia while Roki took another award in the Best Video category.

Moyo did not even attend the awards ceremony after allegedly getting a tip-off from one of the adjudicators that there was no award for him.

Speaking in an interview with The Zimbabwe Gazette yesterday, Moyo blasted ZIMA organizers saying their judgements were not balanced.

“It was grossly unfair. Of course Macheso is a good musician but I feel I have been robbed of some of the awards. Most of music fans would agree with me that there are categories that we could easily win if the process was fair and transparent.

“How do they come up with their results? No one knows. They say a team of judges sits to assess each category but I believe the best judges are the fans. There should be a voting process and fans will have to choose the winners.”

“Without that, the awards will always be dubious and we will not take them seriously. I am not saying this because I lost but some issues really have to be clarified,” fumed Moyo.

The awards night saw Oliver Mtukudzi and Shingisai Suluma scooping doubles.

Amai Shingisai Suluma is the Best Female Gospel artiste with her Maitiro Enyu and Best Female Artiste after beating Rumbidzai Zvirikuzhe, Fungisai Zvakavapano-Mashavave and Betty Makaya.
Superstar Oliver Mtukudzi bagged the Traditional Contemporary and Zimbabwean Music Ambassador awards.

Surprise winners this year are the group Ma Leather that snatched the Best Jazz award from Dudu Manhenga and Mono Mukundu while Ronnie B is this year’s Most Promising Artiste with his Ndiudze.

MACHESO HAANA KANA RATINGATI TALENT. VANHU VAKAWANDA JUST LIKE HIM NOT
ACTUALLY SAYING KUTI HIS MUSIC IS THE BEST. HE IS NOT AN ARTIST AT ALL
BECAUSE HECANNOT DIVERT FROM THE STYLE HE COPIED FROM ZAIRE. HE'S NOT
SO ORIGINAL AND SO AUTHENTIC BECAUSE HE COPIED SAMBA MUSIC STYLE FROM
ZAIRE. A PURE ARTIST CAN SIMPLY DIVERT FROM ONE STYLE INTO ANOTHER.
ART IS ABOUT CREATIVITY. MACHESO IS NOT ABLE TO DIVERT FROM THE COPIED
STYLE INTO SOMETING OF HIS OWN. DHEHWA VAKURUZVE.

OLIVER MTUKUDZI HAS A PROBLEM. HE DOES NOT APPRECIATE MA EFFORTS ANOISWA NEVANHU ON HIS WORK. WHY IS IT HE IS NOT INTERESTED AT ALL IN ATTENDING OUR LOCAL AWARD CELEBRATIONS IN ZIMBABWE? HE ONLY LIKES ATTENDING INTERNATIONAL AWARDS LIKE THE KORA IN S. AFRICA. AND TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE HE SENDS HIS WIFE OR SON TO COLLECT LOCAL AWARDS. HE IS SO UNFAIR BECAUSE HE BELONGS TO A GROUP (BAND), AT LEAST ONE OF THE BAND MEMBERS SHOULD STEP FOWARD TO RECEIVE THE PRIZE/TROPHY/CERTIFICATE/OR WHATEVER IT MAY BE.HIS WIFE AND SON ARE NOT PART OF THE BAND. SEE, THE BAND MEMBERS ARE THE REAL PEOPLE BEHIND ALL.
